Bodie Ghost Town, California
Bodie is a full day or more for any photographer. Preserved in a state of “arrested decay,” Bodie State Historic Park preserves just a small part of a gold-mining boom town that once had nearly 10,000 residents, but there are still over 200 structures. Although not all of the artifacts strewn around the area were actually part of the town, they make great photographic subjects. Many of the interiors however, remain today as they were left, and are still stocked with their original goods.
It is best to visit Bodie in the spring, summer and fall when the weather is bearable. Still, always bring a jacket, even in the summer, because at 8,000 feet any kind of weather can happen at any time.
